Ageing Studies

To strengthen the LGBTI + community and its activism, May 17 started its activities called LGBTI+ above 40 within the field of elderliness. The outcome of the first meeting -with the participation of over 20 LGBTI+ persons- in December 2019 was to set out with the aim of conquering the LGBTI+ community’s fear of loneliness and isolation as a result of aging.

The very first research in this field titled ‘LGBTI+ Elders : Situation In Turkey and Around the World' started in May, 2020 and was published on ETKİNİZ EU Programme support. In July 2020, a series of online events were organized with the support of ILLGA Europe to give further directions to the works regarding LBTI+ elder persons.

With their motto ‘ No to deprivation, poverty ,and isolation’, 40+ Ageing Studies group, formerly known as the Initiative for 40+ LGBTI+ persons, will now carry out their works within May 17 Association.
