International Experience Sharing Meeting-I was completed successfully - May 17 Association

The first online experience sharing meeting mentioned here as a part of such advocacy activities*, is held today-6 March 2024 between 13:00-14:00 by the LGBTI+ Aging Studies Programme of May 17 Association.

In this meeting, which 20 persons applied for registration beforehand and 19 persons of them attended to, the activities held by the Tels Quels from Belgium on aging and elder LGBTI+ persons were assessed. French-Turkish consecutive translation support was also provided throughout the meeting.

Social Workers Mélanie Gerrebos and Manon Vleminckx from Tels Quels talked about the social service support they provide, the training studies they provide, exhibition and socialization events they organize.

Explaining that they have an experienced team to carry out social service assistance, Manon Vleminckx talked about the social events they organize every week and every month; then explained that the events such as the cinema club are open to the participation of people of all ages and sexual orientation/gender identities.

Mélanie Gerrebos stated that they provide training for employees in nursing homes to ensure that elder LGBTI+ persons can enjoy equal service while preventing discrimination.

Spokespersons later stated that they organized an exhibition against the invisibility of the sexuality of elder LGBTI+ persons. They stated that they created the exhibition by taking anonymous body photographs with persons they selected from their community, in order to break out the body shaming practices against elder LGBTI+ community. After the Q&A session, the meeting was over.

The second of this event will take place at the end of April 2024 with another international good example NGO.
* These advocacy studies of LGBTI+ Aging Studies Programme planned between February and May 2024 will be hold within the scope of the "Advancing the rights of LGBTI+ in Turkey" project supported by ILGA Europe.
